Who does the Council represent?

 


 

 



There are about 22,000 people residing within the boundary of this Council of which approximately 16,000 are registered electors.
The Council administers as a 'third tier authority' an area of approximately 2,800 hectares. The County of Cornwall Wards of Camborne (North); Camborne (South) and Camborne (West) and are constituent Wards of the Council; each Ward returning six Councillors. Councillors usually stand for election as members of national political parties.
The current political composition of Camborne Town Council is:
Labour = 5 members
Liberal Democrat = 6 members
Mebyon Kernow = 5 members
Conservative = 1 member
Independent = 1

When are councillors elected?


Councillors are elected every four years, the last election was May 2007, or if a vacancy occurs when a by-election could be called.

What do councillors do?


Policy decisions about Council services are made by 18 councillors elected to 3 wards by the people of Camborne.

How often do councillors meet?


The Full Council meets on the 2nd Thursday of every month; the Amenities Committee meets on the 3rd Thursday of each month, the Budget & Development Committee on the 4th Thursday of each month and the Planning Committee on the 2nd and 4th Thursdays of each month. There are no meetings during the August recess.

How can I find out what has been decided?

The minutes of all meetings are included in the Agenda for the Full Council, which is available in the local library. The current minutes of the Full Council, Amenities, Budget and Development and Planning meetings are posted on this web site.

How is the Council organised?

 


Camborne Town Council is a parish within the district of Kerrier which is itself a part of the six district councils within Cornwall. The Town Council has three wards, being Camborne North, South and West. Each ward has six elected Town Councillors. The same three wards elect three Councillors to serve on the District Council. The County Council has the same wards represented by one elected member for each. The Member of Parliament representing Camborne is Julia Goldsworthy (Liberal Democrat). and this division is shared with Redruth and Falmouth and is known as the Camborne Falmouth Constituency.

   
  Can I attend Council meetings?    
 


Members of the public can attend meetings of the Full Council, Amenities, Budget and Development and Planning meetings. If you wish to speak at any of the meetings of the Council you can approach the Clerk prior to the meeting and if the Chairman so decides, he can suspend standing orders to allow you to express your views.
At the Full Council Meeting prior to the commencement of business there is an agenda item set aside specifically to allow for public participation. Meetings are held in the The Council Offices, The Basset Centre, Basset Road, Camborne. Agendas for meetings are posted in the Town notice boards three working days prior to the meetings.
